We are looking for mentors from a variety of different professional backgrounds to support 14-15
year old students preparing to start the final year of their GCSE’s. These young people have been selected for the programme as they are at risk of disengaging from education and not achieving their potential.

Mentors would be required to support these young people by offering 1-to-1 support on careers, employability skills and post-16 options. Mentors will develop a relationship with their mentee over 12-months, meeting once per month for one hour working on themes including communication, confidence and motivation amongst others.

All mentors will be trained through our our online platform and be invited to a face-to-face workshop to develop their skills. Support will be offered throughout the mentoring relationship from One Million Mentors and Co-op Academy Failsworth.

Mentors are required for students with high potential in year 9. These students have been identified
by the school individually as those who may thrive with additional support. We are hoping the scheme will encourage these students to widen their horizons and look to post-16 choices,s pecifically in reference to what they may want to do after their GCSE’s, helping them think about their own goals opposed.

The programme will be running for approximately 12 months from May 2019, sessions will take place on Friday mornings from 9am to 10am.

We are very proud to be hosting a part of this year’s Pride Youth Games in Manchester on Sunday 11th August. We will be offering a series of cycling activities for the 100 young people involved in the games at the HSBC UK National Cycling Centre. We are looking for volunteers to help us make sure the day runs smoothly by supporting the transition between activities and marshalling the outdoor leisure cycling course in Phillips Park. No experience required – just heaps of enthusiasm and a desire to help us make this event a success.

BActive Manchester supports vulnerable families that have been affected by domestic abuse, mental health and substance misuse issues, with an emphasis on overall wellbeing. BAM lead sessions and events for families to have fun and become more active together. BAM deliver a 12 week programme which includes weekly activity sessions such as dance, ball skills and walks in the park as well as taster sessions from external coaches. The project is aimed at families with children aged 5-15 but is inclusive of the whole family.

BAM Active Volunteers support the team during the sessions in the 12 week programmes. They support and encourage families to be more active, get involved and have fun together.

This will include:-

. Assist in setting up the activity sessions with relevant equipment e.g. hoops, balls, badminton

. Take part in the sessions and encourage families to join in

. Meet and greet families at the venue

. Report achievements or concerns to a member of BAM staff

. Facilitate discussions about physical activity, wellbeing and the BAM project

. Complete a register for each session

BAM Active Volunteers receive full training, ongoing support and supervision and need to complete a DBS check.
