The World Taekwondo Championships arrive in the UK for the first ever time in May 2019.

GB Taekwondo are looking for volunteers to join the Dan Clan as the taekwondo world arrives in Manchester.

The Dan Clan will be an integral part of the World Championships as they will be the face of the competition. They will be seen across Manchester from the airport, to hotels to transport hubs and of course in Manchester Arena. This is your chance to get involved!

The name “Dan Clan” comes from the common Korean term “Dan” which denotes a degree of black belt the top belt rank you can achieve in Taekwondo. We believe that we will have the top rank of volunteers, so the name is only fitting!
Not only are there roles available in the Competition Venue but there are supporting roles across Manchester, the home of GB Taekwondo. There will be numerous events running simultaneously as members from around the world gather for meetings and events around famous Manchester landmarks.

The competition will run across 5 days from Wednesday 15th – Sunday 19th May 2019 at the Manchester Arena.

GB Taekwondo will be recruiting 250 – 280 volunteers to make up the Dan Clan.

Volunteer roles will be available between Friday 10th May – Monday 20th May 2019 with 32 different roles available in 10 different areas – there’s plenty to choose from!

Taekwondo athletes will be competing at the World Championships not only to become a World Champion but also to gain ranking points to secure their place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
With thousands of people expected to be watching from the stands, streaming and on television, it is definitely not one to be missed!

We are looking for General Volunteers to work around the site at the Northern Lawn Tennis Club in Didsbury and help bring world-class tennis to Manchester! Volunteer shifts are now available to view and if you’re interested, sign-up for as many or as few of the shifts you can attend.

The Tournament runs from the 9th-16th June and will be the first tournament of the grass-court season, preparing players for Wimbledon. Sign-ups will be kept up-to-date with our Volunteer Newsletter and will receive information of their allocated shifts and roles nearer the time. For more information or for any queries, contact Tom Abbey on 0161 234 1314 or thomas.abbey@manchester.gov.uk

It is a key part of the British grass court season leading into The Wimbledon Championships, with our 2018 singles champion Ons Jabeur receiving a wild card into Wimbledon 2018, where she reached the 2nd round.

This event, which is in its 5th year, is a joint partnership between the Lawn Tennis Association, Manchester City Council, and the Northern Lawn Tennis Club. With over 3000 spectators attending in 2018 and a total prize money pot of $100,000, it typically attracts professional female players ranked between 70 and 200 in the world.

In addition to top class tennis matches, the event, through forging partnerships with the local community, is geared towards providing a legacy to tennis in Manchester. It has won awards including Manchester Tournament of the Year 2016, and the north-west Britain in Bloom award 2017.

A key legacy objective is to especially help promote and engage ‘Women in Sport’.
