A new opportunity has been added to MCRVIP by Dementia Friendly Swimming, starts 31 October 2016

Join in this opportunity now.

The Dementia Friendly Swimming Project is working with the city’s swimming facilities to create opportunities for people affected by dementia, whether personally or as a carer, to go swimming in a fun, safe and supportive environment. We want to be able to provide support for anyone attending the sessions, which primarily, comes from the centre staff who have received dementia awareness training.

However, we have now identified two roles where we are looking for support from volunteers to provide additional assistance during sessions. With Dementia Friendly Swimming sessions running in five swimming facilities across the city Broadway Leisure Centre, East Manchester Leisure Centre, Manchester Aquatics Centre, Moss Side Leisure Centre and Wythenshawe Forum, we are looking for volunteers to support people during our sessions and help them get the most out of the sessions available to them.

The opportunities available include volunteering as a swim buddy or a pool activator. If you have an interest in swimming, enjoy helping people, making new friends and having fun then please take a look at the volunteering opportunities attached.

Training will be provided so don’t worry if you haven’t supported people living with dementia before. For more information on the Dementia Friendly Swimming Project please visit http://www.swimming.org/dementiafriendly

It’s set to be one of the biggest sporting parade’s Manchester has ever seen!

We are very proud to announce that Manchester aka ”Medals factory” has been chosen to stage the homecoming parade "fit for heroes" for Team GB’s triumphant Olympic and Paralympic stars on Monday, October 17.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to descend on the streets of the city centre to honour the record-breaking Team GB athletes, including gold medal winners Jason Kenny and Laura Trott, who trained at the city’s velodrome in east Manchester.

As part of this event we will require a number of General Volunteers to assist in areas such as the parade, civic reception and media zone. Volunteer shift times TBC

This is a great opportunity not to be missed and volunteer spaces are expected to fill up very quickly!

**Please note that if you have chosen to support other roles for the parade then please do not join this opportunity. However if you wish to change then please contact Nick Alogba on the details below**
