Pals Support Team – will be supporting the rehearsals for the evening concert.

Job Description: To be responsible for checking in and organising teams of dancers, way finding, coordination, following and disseminating instructions from the choreographers. The Pals Support Tea volunteers are required to be organised, calm and personable individuals. It would be ideal if the same people could volunteer for multiple shifts for this role.

This year marks the centenary of the Battle of the Somme in the First World War, which resulted in over one million casualties on the Western Front and touched the lives of millions of families at home.

The role of dresser is part of the Somme Pals Teams who are supporting the evening concert production.

Job Description: The dressers will be assisting in organizing costumes and helping the community cast of dancers with their needs. Working backstage during the dress rehearsal and evening concert. Ideally the same people will volunteer for both 30th June and 1st July.

Job description: To accompany a wagon pulled by 8 individuals from Manchester Cathedral, along Cheetham Hill Road and Bury Old Road to Heaton Park as part of a memorial walk. Duties include fielding questions from passersby, supporting the Site Manager along the route. It is essential that the wagon walkers are able to walk at least 5 miles uphill and able to provide own appropriate comfortable footwear and clothing. Volunteers will not be asked to walk off the pavement into the highway. A full route map and briefing will be given prior to the event.

Job Description: On 1st July a Wagon will process from Manchester Cathedral to Heaton Park. Along the route it will make scheduled stops including at Bignor Street Park where a community event will take place. Community Event Assistants will duties will include liaison with different community partners involved on the event, meeting and greeting members of the public, representing Somme100 Manchester and giving information about the Wagon Walk, Memory Square, and the Heaton Park event to attendees.

Job Description: Working with artist liaison, production assistant to help prep back stage area and production office for the evening concert. Assist in getting catering set up, assisting with distribution of accreditation and schedules. Ideally volunteers for this role would be able to commit to all of the dates listed for this role.

The concert will feature a range of letters and poems depicting the lives of those affected by the Somme, including a specially commissioned poem read by author and broadcaster Lemn Sissay.

On 1st July a service of commemoration will be held at Manchester Cathedral followed by wreath laying at the cenotaph and a wagon parade.

Job Description: As City Centre Assistant you will act as an ambassador for the event, distributing event guides to the public observing the parade, cenotaph wreath laying and at the viewing sites (Exchange Square/Cathedral Gardens). You will offer accurate directions to members of the public, therefore a knowledge of the city is an advantage for this role. All maps, guides and relevant event information will be provided.
