A new Arts and Crafts opportunity has been added to Manchester VSB by Manchester Sports Development Team, starts 04 September 2014

Now in its 8th Year The Sainsbury’s 2014 UK School Games is taking place in Manchester between Thursday 4th and Sunday 7th September 2014 and we need 400 volunteers to support the delivery of the event.

It is a multi sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes of school age, designed to replicate the feel of ‘mega’ events such as the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, with opening and closing ceremonies, medal presentation ceremonies, an Athletes’ Village and a cultural programme for local residents and visitors.

The SSG involves 12 sports over four days – Athletics, Badminton, Cycling, Fencing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Rugby Sevens, Judo, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball and Wheelchair Basketball, with a minimum of three of the 12 sports to have a disability offer.
Previous event records estimates that approximately 10,000 spectators will attend over the 4 days. Shift times and venue for each day will be confirmed in June 2014.

We project that circa 1600 athletes will participate in this event across the 12 sports. This is a unique opportunity to support the delivery of an event this size.

The venues for the games will be

Athletes Village Armitage Centre

Athletics Outdoor Arena Etihad Campus Badminton Armitage Centre Cycling National Cycling Centre
Fencing Armitage Centre
Gymnastics Indoor Arena
Hockey Belle Vue / Armitage Centre
Rugby Sevens Armitage Centre
Judo Armitage Centre
Swimming Manchester Aquatics Centre
Table Tennis Active Lifestyle Centre / Mcr Central
Volleyball Sugden Centre
Wheelchair Basketball Amaechi Basketball Centre

Through this event we aim to reward and recognise a diverse workforce of skilled, trained and enthusiastic young and adult volunteers and inspire them to continue their volunteering journey beyond this event.

We look for friendly, outgoing and competent volunteers. Volunteers will be acting as representatives for the event therefore the right attitude is essential. No specific experience is required and briefings will take place prior to the event to ensure that you are fully prepared for your role and responsibilities.

Once you have signed up please keep the dates free.

Please note that the hours shown as you sign up to each day is NOT the length of each shift, they have just been entered so the opportunity can be advertised at this stage.

Shifts and venues will be confirmed in June once the sign up process has

Now in its thirteenth year, the BUPA Great Manchester 10k Run is the nation’s favourite 10k running event and we want you to join the Stroke Association on the day!

The Great Manchester Run is recognised as one of the world’s greatest road running competitions, with the elite race performances ranking highly in the world best performance lists every year. Away from the elites, the race sees an all-star cast of celebrities and thousands of charity and fun runners taking part to raise money for charity.

At this event we’re looking for volunteers who are willing to cheer our runners on at our cheering point along the route. You will be provided with cheering aids and refreshments on the day, with a travel expense allowance of £5.

Our runners really appreciate the support on the route so you’d really be brightening up someone’s day, especially as they’re on their final stretch to the finish line!

The Stroke Association believe in life after stroke. Volunteers are at the core of what we do and without you we just wouldn’t be able to work. We believe that by working together we can change the world for people affected by stroke.
