A new Running opportunity has been added to Manchester VSB by Stroke Association , starts 09 March 2014

The Resolution Run returns Delamere Forest on Sunday 9th March 2014. We’re inviting people to sign up and choose their distance of 5, 10 or 15k!
At this event we’re looking for volunteers who are willing to help us out with setting up the start/finish point, marshalling the route, helping with registering our participants and people who would like to help cheer our runners on whilst they undertake their challenge.
The Stroke Association believes in life after stroke. That’s why we campaign to improve stroke care and support people to make the best possible recovery, and why we fund research to develop new treatments and ways to prevent stroke.
For more details or to request your registration form, contact Melissa Newland on 07712327579 or email melissa.newland@stroke.org.uk.

A new Running opportunity has been added to Manchester VSB by Xtra Mile Events, starts 06 April 2014

In order to improve the athlete and spectator experience, we have called for the help of volunteers otherwise known as Marathon Makers. Marathon Makers will be helping guide and inform runners and spectators. All Marathon Makers will be located around and leading up to race village (Old Trafford E2 car park) or situated around the course at various Metrolink tram stops. There will be up to 70 marathon makers with each group of around 6-10 having their own Marathon Maker team leader. Marathon Makers can contact their team leaders if they are not able to help or if escalation is required. Marathon makes will be clearly visible and the first port of call for confused or troubled passers-by so it’s important to be as helpful and friendly as possible.

> Assist the public to the best of your ability.

> Guide spectators and participants to the desired location in the race village or course.

> Update Team Leader with any incidents/accidents within your area.

> Assist in directing people outside the race village and provide as much information about the surrounding area as possible.

> Read and understand your manual so you can deliver exceptional customer service.

> Greet every spectator / competitor with a warm and friendly welcome and look to engage and make conversation.

> Report and log any feedback and pass on to XME or your team leader.

In order to improve the athlete and spectator experience, we have called for the help of volunteers otherwise known as Marathon Makers. Marathon Makers will be helping guide and inform the runners and spectators. They will be located around and leading up to race village (Old Trafford E2 car park) and several parts of the course. There will be up to 80 marathon makers in total. Each team leader will be responsible for a group of around ten Marathon Makers. Marathon Makers can contact their team leaders if assistance is needed. It is up to the team leader to appropriately brief their team with information and responsibilities that are required of them.

> Ensure all Marathon Makers are fully briefed with roles and responsibilities (notes will be provided).

> Ensure all the Marathon makers have the appropriate clothing.

> Be the main point of contact for marathon makers within your team.

> Provide support to marathon makers if required, trying to ensure their safety as much as possible.

> Report to Marathon Makers Manager when required.

> Assist marathon makers with any queries if appropriate.

> Provide as much information to the Marathon makers as possible to ensure knowledge of and efficiency within race village.

> Treat all athletes, other staff, volunteers, and other customers with dignity and respect and contribute to their ‘journey’.
