A new Squash and Racketball opportunity has been added to Manchester VSB by World Squash Championships, starts 26 October 2013

A major world event being held in Manchester – on the spectacular all-glass show court at two major venues, Manchester’s own National Squash Centre at Sports City 26-30 October and at Manchester Central (formerly GMex) 31 October-3 November.

This will be recognised as the most important event in the world squash calendar and on the professional circuit.
The 8 day event will attract the world’s top class 64 players in the championships with representation from around the world.

This prestigious event follows on from Manchester’s successful hosting of the National Squash Championships over the past 11 years.

Manchester will showcase the sport on the world stage and ahead of the bid for the game of squash to be included as an Olympic sport in 2020.

Volunteers are required to carry out a number of essential roles during the period of this event.

There will be a pattern of shifts throughout the championships which are subject to change due to the programme changes and also approximate finishing times :

26-30 October – 10am-4pm
31 October/1 November – 4pm-10pm
2 November – 1pm-7pm
3 November – 12noon-7pm


Expenses of £5 per shift will be paid for this event + meal vouchers Tea ,coffee & water will be available throughout the shifts.


You will be provided with a championship tee shirt.
You are requested to wear BLACK TROUSERS/SKIRT.
If you wear jogging bottoms, they MUST BE PLAIN BLACK and definitely no logos visible. FOOTWEAR – must be BLACK shoes, or BLACK trainers -definitely no logos visible.

No hats/baseball caps to be worn whilst on duty.


There will be an orientation session on Tuesday 15th October at 2pm or 6.30pm at National Squash Centre for all volunteers to attend prior to the event – £5 expenses will be paid for attendance.

A new Football opportunity has been added to Manchester VSB by Serco Leisure, starts 31 August 2013

Serco Leisure is hosting a charity 5-a-side Football tournament on the 31st August at the Sugden Centre for staff from across the country.

The charity we are supporting is Whizz Kidz. They are committed to giving disabled children the chance to lead more independent lives by providing equipment such as wheelchairs and also developing life skills that will help them live just like any other child.

We are looking for at least 6 individuals that are would like to support the cause and donate their time. Those applying should be confident, have good judgement and can make strong calls. The Refs word is final!!!

Those who can give their time will be offered one month free membership at their local Serco managed leisure facility in Manchester.

A BBQ snack will also be provided for your lunch.

Action for blind people are looking for volunteers to help out at an Actionnaires sports day event for youngsters aged 4-16yrs with a visual impairment and their siblings.
Your role will be to assist the Action for Blind People co-ordinators, to help support the young people to access the activity, provide sighted guiding if required and to encourage the young people to participate, behave appropriately and develop their confidence.
A short brief on how to guide will be given to the volunteers pre-event.

Come and be a part of the British National Championships organising team.

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make this year”s Nationals a great success, working in a variety of interesting roles and meeting people from all corners of the UK over the weekend of the 7th & 8th September. – We will have well over 500 athletes competing, ranging from children participating for the first time on the national stage, right through to international stars from World Championship teams, all battling it out to be crowned British Champion 2013.

Taekwondo competition experience is not necessary for any of the volunteer roles. You will be made to feel very welcome by our event staff and will have the chance to see dynamic displays of Taekwondo close up and at its best.

Volunteers will also receive a free championship t-shirt to wear during the event, meals whilst on shift and a small contribution towards expenses.
